Winter Wonderland Challenge: Cold January Days
The fifth task of the Winter Wonderland Challenge was to write about January. I saw the word 'write' and thought: This is right up my alley. But as I picked up my pen, words wouldn't come. At first I was procrastinating a bit and when I gave it a second try, I just didn't get into the zone, if you know what I mean. That's probably because my Grandpa is in hospital, having trouble with keeping his heart beating the way it's supposed to be.
I wrote a poem-ish thing about January. I'd loved it to be better, but it's a small miracle that I could stay concentrated long enough to write this after all that's already happened this week.
Cold January Days
They say you enjoy life most
While walking barefoot
On green Summer grass
When springflowers
Bring color to the world
When raging Autumn storms
Play games with your hair
But I love ice and snow
And only truly feel alive
On cold January days
Summer's warmth is nice
So's Spring's promise of life
And Autumn's colorful time
But nothing melts my icy heart
Like snow on New Year's Day
Turning my whole world white
Nothing can make my frozen lips smile
Like snowmen all 'round town
I feel most alive
On cold January days
When the skating rink closes
And the snowmen go to their snowy heaven
When the resolutions are half-forgotten
And February looms
My icy heart freezes again
And my frozen lips won't smile no more
All through Spring, Summer and Autumn
I'll wait a year to feel
As alive as I feel
On cold January days
I've always liked to pretend I'm an ice queen :P
I feel like I could've done better on this poem, but if I take the circumstances into consideration I think I did well. Speaking of those circumstances: I really can't focus on writing anything at the moment. It might be a while before I write something good again.
Before my Grandpa had to go to hospital for his heart, I started writing a novel. As you know, I'm fairly insecure about anything I write. So before I start posting a chapter no one is waiting for, I want to know: are you guys interested in me posting half a novel here?
Stay Awesome!

I'm almost finished with the Dutch version of one of the stories I want to post, but I don't know how to add copyright... Do you know how to do that?
I don't know either :P
DeleteJust add copyright Envy with Time and date I guess.:P
I would love to read half a novel, especially from a talented writer like you!

Another Teen On The Web
Thank you for your kind words :)
DeleteI'll check out your blog soon, but I don't have a lot of time at the moment, as you can probably imagine...
I wish I had your poetry skills... And I totally get the thing about writing in the zone! I thought it would be easy because I thought about it, but the little spritz of inspiration left by the time I began to write it. Lesson learned: write stuff down, fast. :)
ReplyDeletexoxo Morning
Thank you!
DeleteI sometimes find myself in the same situation: I come home super excited about something I've been putting together in my mind, but by the time I sit down I've either forgotten it, or I don't feel like writing it down because there's so much I want to write and I'm just lazy...
It's a weird thing, writing :)
This is so beautiful. Half of your poetic talent would make me complete. Yes please post half of your novel!
ReplyDeleteSo glad I found my way to your blog.

That's so kind of you, you're making me blush!
DeleteThanks for your amazing comment, it made my day :)
Wow! I loved that poem! I would also like to see the novel, I eagerly await that post :)
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry about your Grandpa, and I hope he is able to make a full recovery. xx
I'm so glad you liked it. I'm hoping to post a first chapter of a novel soon and maybe even of a second one too. After this poem, things just clicked and I've been writing like crazy.
DeleteMy Grandpa is doing better, by the way. The doctors weren't sure what was wrong, but he's home now and doing well :)
I LOVE this poem! I always love the poetry you write here on your blog. Also, sending my thoughts with you and your grandfather.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I sincerely hope you choose to post your novel here. Take it from someone who has been putting off the same idea for over six months now. Just post it. You will do great.
It's so good to hear people are enjoying my poetry :)
DeleteThanks for your concern about my Grandpa. He's doing well now, but a few days ago I thought it was all over. Comments like yours really cheered me up :)
I'm hoping to post the first chapter soon, hopefully before the end of the month :) I have to figure out copyright and such first, because I've read a lot about people stealing content lately and I'm kinda scared... But soon I'm going to be posting ^.^
That's a great poem on January. We never get to experience winter in January because it's summer all year round here in Singapore. It must be beautiful to be able to enjoy all the four seasons. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd if you'd like to post a novel, there's this website called Wattpad, I'm not sure if you've heard of it. It's a site for unpublished and undiscovered writers to upload their work. It's great because you can set your own book cover and set the story as copyright as well. This means that people are not allowed to copy your work at all, and the Wattpad site ensures that too. You may even be discovered and approached to publish your novel if it's really good too. A lot of undiscovered writers find their big break there. :) Happy writing. :)
Thank you Dian. I have to admit that January rarely is the way I described it here. It's not summer all year round, which I wouldn't mind either, but at the moment there's no snow and just little patches of ice floating in the middle of ponds every morning before they melt away.
DeleteI know Wattpad :) I made an account over a year ago, but the Dutch community is very closed. I didn't get any reads or votes and really no feedback at all, until I started posting every week but that exhausted me in a lot of ways. I think I'm going to post like one or two chapters here and if people want to continue reading I'll send them to my Wattpad account.
I solemnly swear that I am up to no good! Wait, no, I mean: I solemnly swear that I will answer each and every comment ;)
